2 In Critical Condition After Car With Engine Problem Speeds in Reverse in North Haven

Two people are in critical condition after a vehicle experiencing engine problems in North Haven sped into reverse and trapped the driver underneath it.

Police responded to the Hartford Turnpike around 11:30 a.m. after a caller said a vehicle rolled over, and a man was trapped under it.

Police later determined that the driver had pulled over to the side of the road because of some type of engine problem and one of the people in the car got out.

It’s not clear why, but the vehicle sped in reverse, crossed the road, hit a barrier and rolled over, police said.

The driver was partially thrown from the car and trapped under it.

The driver and one passenger were transported to an area hospital and are in critical condition.

Hartford Turnpike is closed between Upper State Street and Leighton Court because of the police investigation.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call the North Haven Police Department at 203-239-1616.
