Police ID Man and Woman Killed in Crash on I-91 in North Haven

A 26-year-old Manchester man and a 24-year-old New Britain woman were killed when a car crashed into a tree early Friday morning on Interstate 91 North near exit 10 in North Haven.

North Haven Fire officials said two men and a woman were in the small white car when it veered off the highway around 1:15 a.m., hit a tree and rolled over into a wooded area.

Keith Burwell, 26, of Manchester, and Virginia Brown, 24, of New Britain, were thrown from the car. Burwell was killed instantly and Brown was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she died, according to police.

Burwell was driving and Brown was sitting in the back seat, according to a news release from state police. 

The third victim, Matthew Wilson, 25, of Manchester, was in the front passenger seat and was able to get out of the car, police said.

He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Officials initially said he is in critical condition, but state police said his injuries are not life-threatening.

The right and center lanes of the highway were blocked but reopened around 5 a.m.

State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
