2 Fatal Crashes, 39 DUIs Over Fourth of July Weekend

State police responded to two fatal crashes, arrested 39 suspected drunken drivers and issued thousands of tickets during Fourth of July holiday traffic enforcement from early on the morning of Friday, July 1 through Monday night.

State police were out in traditional as well as marked cars and said they responded to 315 crashes, including 45 with injuries.

The fatal crashes occurred on Interstate 95 in East Haven on Saturday and on I-95 in Westbrook on Sunday.

State police issued 1,227 citations for speeding and 2,913 for other hazardous moving violations, they said.

During the holiday weekend in 2015, state police responded to 170 crashes, including two that were fatal and made 33 DUI arrests.
