20-Year-Old Professional Boxer From East Hartford Headlines at Foxwoods

You might not know Mykey Williams' name right now, but you will. The professional boxer headlined for the first time Saturday night at Foxwoods. It’s just a step closer to his big career goals – dreams he's chasing all while staying true to himself, with a true supporter by his side.

Boxers aren’t all the same.

"I always thought that they were misunderstood,” said Ring of Champions trainer, Paul Cichon. “It's actually a high level chess match. You got to out think the guy. If you can out think him, then you can out box them."

By that measure, 20 year-old Mykey Williams is ready to out-box the best.

"I don't need to fit in,” Williams said. “I'm myself regardless. I think people notice that."

That's the way Williams has always been because there's always been a lot on his mind. His father was shot and killed when he was eight days old. Years later, his house burnt down. Tragedy then, a matter of fact now.

"I lost like everything pretty much,” said Williams.

But as the saying goes, sometimes it takes losing everything to find what you’re looking for.

"He's one of my best friends, no question about it,” Cichon said. He’s trained Williams since he was eight years-old.

Cichon would drive Williams to the gym every day. Soon, those daily car rides turned into an inseparable bond, not unlike a father and son. Williams even saying it was Cichon who first taught him how to drive.

But, the two still don’t forget the father Williams never got to know. They carry a t-shirt with his father’s face on it with them to every fight.

A reminder to Williams that actions always speak louder than words.

“I see pros out there now that are talking like they want to be Floyd Mayweather, they want to be this or that,” Cichon said. “Mykey is him. You're not going to change him."

Williams headlined for the first time in a fight on Saturday night at Foxwoods. He remains undefeated after downing Matt Doherty.
