Police have identified the 22-year-old woman killed in a car accident in Old Saybrook Friday night.

Heather Gleason, of Ivoryton, was killed when her car hit a tree and burst into flames near Middlesex Turnpike and Bokum Road around 10:40 p.m. on Friday, according to police.

When officers arrived on scene they tried to pull the Gleason from the vehicle, which was on fire, but despite their efforts she was pronounced dead.

Two officers were taken to Middlesex Medical Center Shoreline for treatment of injuries they received while trying to save Gleason. They were treated and released.

Police said it appears the vehicle was traveling north on Middlesex Turnpike and struck a tree at the intersection of Bokum Road. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

No other vehicles were involved and the driver had no passengers, police said.

The road was closed for about five hours while the accident reconstruction team investigated. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact police at (860) 395-3142.
