24-Year-Old Man Dies After Canoe Capsizes

A spokesman for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says a 24-year-old man pulled from the cold waters of the Long Island Sound in Milford has died.

According to Milford Fire Captain Greg Carman, a canoe with a woman and man aboard overturned just after 2 p.m. Saturday. The woman was rescued immediately and was found conscious and alert.

Officials said Jeffery Young of North Caldwell, N.J., was found about a half hour later and was unresponsive. Crews immediately started CPR at the scene.

Both the woman and Young were rushed to Milford Hospital, where Young died. The woman was treated for hypothermia and released, said DEEP.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Stratford Fire Department provided mutual aid.
