3 Shot With Paintballs in Hamden

Two teens have been arrested after three girls were shot with paintballs in Hamden on Thursday afternoon.

A 16-year-old New Haven girl was walking on First Street around 4 p.m. when someone shot her with paintballs near Jones Road, police said.

A car approached as she was walking and someone started shooting through the sunroof, police said. The girl was hit in the face and mouth.

Moments later, police learned that a 15-year-old Hamden girl and her 18 year-old friend were shot with paintballs while walking on Second Street. The 15-year-old was shot in the neck and shoulder and her friend was shot in the mouth.

Their injuries are not life-threatening.

An officer saw a vehicle parked on Second Street soon after and seized two paintball guns and a bag of paint balls, police said.

Avery Deboise, 18, of New Haven, was charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree, conspiracy to commit reckless endangerment in the second degree, assault in the third degree, conspiracy to commit assault in the third degree and breach of peace.

Deboise was released after posting a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on Dec 4.

The 17-year-old from North Haven was charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree, conspiracy to commit reckless endangerment in the second degree, assault in the third degree, conspiracy to commit assault in the third degree and breach of peace.

He was released to the custody of a family member and is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Dec. 4.
