3 Wounded in Police Shootout

Hartford police spent the night scouring Pawtucket Street for evidence from a gun battle that sent a car full of suspects to the hospital.

Police were in the middle of a firearms investigation when the bullets started flying about 3:15 p.m Monday, police said.

One woman and two men were taken to Hartford Hospital with gunshot wounds. One man was critically injured. The other suspects are expected to recover.

“I was at the window when I heard more than 15 gunshots,” Ivelisses Caceres said. She lives around the corner from where the shootout happened.

The shooting occurred when Hartford detectives and federal agents cornered a Chevy Malibu with three people inside, police said.

“The preliminary information we have from investigators from Hartford Police was that they had developed information about the possession of a handgun by a suspect in that vehicle,” Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesperson for Connecticut State Police, said.

The detectives and federal agents were working together as part of a violent crime task force.

State police said they found a handgun in the suspect’s car.

The three Hartford Police detectives involved have been taken off the street, which is standard practice, Vance said.
