The medical examiner has released the causes of death for three people shot and killed inside an apartment at Woodcliff Estates on Nutmeg Lane in East Hartford on Thursday morning.

Shawna Lee Hudson, 26, was killed by a gunshot to the chest, the medical examiner ruled. The two men whose bodies were found died of gunshots to the head.

The shooting happened in a third-floor apartment around 9:15 a.m., police said.

Another man was being carried down a stairwell when police arrived. He said he'd been shot, His injuries are not life-threatening and he is cooperating with police, police said.

Police said this was targeted and not a random act. No one has been arrested, but police said on Friday that there is no need to worry about a shooter being on the loose.

Residents were evacuated from their apartments on Friday and a cleaning crew was heading to the building on Friday. The residents will be allowed to enter after the cleaning crew completes its work.

Derrick Durham, of East Hartford, said he is shocked by what happened there on Thursday.

“Nothing like that ever happened here before,” he said.
Carrie Cassidy is afraid for her family.

”It's really sad. I'm afraid to walk my son out here. He's 6 years old,” she said. “People are dying in my backyard and it's scary. Very scary.”

Suhas More is worried about family and about the security.

“We did feel safe but now we're worried,” More said.

Police said neighbors should not be concerned.

The American Red Cross opened a shelter on Thursday evening to temporarily house residents of Woodcliff Estates who couldn't return home while police processed the crime scene.
