51 Charged With DUI Over Holiday Weekend

State police are patrolling highways and roads in Connecticut over the Independence Day weekend and they have charged 51 people with driving under the influence since Friday morning. 

State police said troopers are focusing on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding. 

There are also sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols through 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday. 

Police said there have been 1,171 speeding violations and 2,486 moving violations, including unsafe lane changes, following too closely, using a cell phone, texting, not wearing a seatbelt and more.  

State police have investigated 367  crashes, including 47 with injuries. 

Over the holiday weekend in 2016, police cited 1,227 for speeding and made 39 DUI arrests. 

Troopers investigated 315 crashes, including two crashes that caused three fatalities.
