5 Swimming Areas Closed Today

Five swimming areas are closed today because of elevated levels of bacteria in the water.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has released its area water quality report and said five swimming areas at state parks and beaches will be closed today.

Silver Sands State Park in Milford, Indian Well State Park in Shelton, Kettletown State Park in Southbury, Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middlefield and Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford are all closed.

No swimming signs were posted at some swimming areas, but not all.

While bacteria in the water is not likely to make anyone ill, officials from DEEP say you should rinse off after coming in contact with it.

They said the runoff from the rain on Sunday night led to high bacteria levels in the water.

All other swimming areas DEEP tests are open.
