Sears Holding announced it will be closing 68 Kmart stores and 10 Sears stores across the country this summer and the Kmart in Putman is among the closing stores.
"The decision to close stores is a difficult but necessary step as we take aggressive actions to strengthen our company, fund out transformation and restore Sears Holdings to profitability," CEO Edward S. Lampert said. "We're focusing on our best members, our best categories and our best stores as we work to accelerate our transformation."
Prior to its closures, each closing Kmart store will hold a liquidation sale on May 12 and Sears on April 29.
The company said most stores will be closed by late July.
