911 Calls of Officers Shooting Guns Released

A 911 caller said she heard six gunshots, all in a row.

Three New Haven police officers accused of firing guns outside a popular restaurant early Sunday morning were arrested and charged last week and now police are releasing the 911 calls.

One person was calm as she told the 911 dispatcher how many shots she heard.

“I would say about six --- all in a row,” the caller said.

In another call, the person who reported shots said she looked outside and did not see anything.

Officers Lawrence Burns, Charles Kim and Krzystof Ruszczyk voluntarily turned themselves in on the morning of Friday, April 6 and were released on a promise to appear, according to a news release from police.

Burns and Kim were each charged with unlawful discharge of a gun, reckless endangerment in the first degree and interfering with a police officer.

Ruszczyk was charged with interfering with a police officer.

The three officers will be arraigned on April 20.

Although the bullets didn’t strike anyone or do any damage, people who live nearby were outraged that their own officers were accused of putting them at risk.
