911 Calls of Vernon Bus Crash Released

One person called from a store and reported that a bus went off the road and that another bus and “a bunch of cars” were stopping.

Last Thursday, 13 students from Vernon Center Middle School were sent to the hospital after the school bus hit a pole and veered off Hartford Turnpike in Vernon.

On Monday, police released 911 calls reporting the crash. The video has not been released because police are investigating.

One person called from a store and reported that a bus went off the road and that another bus and “a bunch of cars” were stopping.

The second call was short, but gave the location.

The third caller told 911 dispatchers that students were on the bus.

Another caller said students were being “off loaded” from the bus

Stacey Beaudry, the bus driver, has been put on suspension while police investigate the crash. They said they were looking to see if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Investigators also want to know if Beaudry fell asleep behind the wheel, which is what several students claimed.

On Thursday night, NBC Connecticut went to Beaudry’s home but she wouldn’t comment.

“We have nothing to say, go away,” Beaudry said. Her husband talked though, and said she swerved to avoid hitting a car. “She's pretty shaken up she's cried a few times,” Alan Beaudry added.

Beaudry is not an employee with Vernon Public Schools. She was hired by First Student bus company.

NBC Connecticut called that company last week to find out if she’s had past complaints or problems with her driving record, but no one would answer our questions.
