Aaron Hernandez Hires Attorney Who Represented Casey Anthony

Hernandez is awaiting trial for the 2012 killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in Boston

For his upcoming murder trial, convicted killer and former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has hired the lawyer who famously won an acquittal for Florida mom Casey Anthony.

Orlando attorney Jose Baez confirmed to necn that Hernandez has retained his firm's services. Hernandez is awaiting trial for the 2012 killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in Boston. He has pleaded not guilty.

"I have fully committed myself to ensuring a fair and just trial for Mr. Hernandez," Baez wrote. "To accomplish this, I have assembled the best legal team in the country to serve as co-counsel."

The team will also include Harvard Law professor Ronald S. Sullivan Jr., Alex Spiro and Linda Kenney Baden.

Baez gained fame during Anthony's highly publicized trial in 2011. Anthony was found not guilty of murder in the 2008 death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. The case garnered national attention after photos showed Anthony partying in the days after her daughter's disappearance.

Hernandez is currently serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of semiprofessional football player Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée.

His lawyers in that case, James Sultan and Charles Rankin, told The Associated Press in a statement that they "wish Aaron the best."
