Back to School for Legislator After DUI Arrest

A state representative charged with drunken driving has been admitted into an alcohol education program for first-time offenders.

Rep. Brian O'Connor of Clinton was arrested in December. He appeared in Middletown Superior Court on Monday.

The judge approved O'Connor's request to enter the program, which could lead to the DUI charge being dismissed. But he also required O'Connor to take part in a panel discussion with victims of drunken driving accidents.

O'Connor's lawyer, Robert Britt, said his client regrets what happened and looks forward to completing the program.
