Amber Alert for 3-Month-Old New York Baby Canceled

Police say minivan involved may be registered in Connecticut.

A 3-month-old baby boy has been found, hours after police said his father assaulted a family member and abducted the baby boy.

Police said Jonathan J. Lawrence. 21,of Union City, New Jersey, went to Greenport, New York to confront the mother of his children and assaulted the woman's grandfather before taking one of his twin children, , who was identified as Steven Ristick.

Lawrence fled in a 2001 blue Chrysler minivan with Connecticut  plates and state police in New York and New Jersey, as well as the Hudson County prosecutor and Union City Police began working on the case.

Officials also reached out to Lawrence's family members, who convinced him to turn himself in, police said. 

Around 6 a.m., Lawrence brought the baby to Union City, New Jersey police and turned himself in.

The baby is healthy, safe and has been reunited with his mother. 

Police said the mother has been cooperating with the Union City police investigation and Lawrence is being held at the in Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny, awaiting extradition for a fugitive from justice warrant.
