Animals Perish in Old Saybrook Barn Fire

Multiple animals have died after a barn fire in Old Saybrook early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to a fully involved barn fire on Middlesex Turnpike around 2:21 a.m.

According to firefighters, none of the animals that were in the barn survived the fire. It is unclear how many and what type of animals were in there.

Middlesex Turnpike was closed for hours while firefighters tackled the flames, but it has since reopened.

Essex Fire Department and Westbrook Fire Department assisted at the scene, along with the Old Saybrook Ambulance and Police Department and Old Saybrook Fire Marshal's Office.
