Applications Flood In Before Storm Damage Deadline

FEMA took in a flood of applications this week from people who had homes or property damaged by the severe storms last March. Tuesday was the last day residents could file for financial assistance.

According to the Norwich Bulletin, 292 new applications were filed on Monday and Tuesday. The final statewide total was 4,112. More than half of the applications came from New London County.

New London County residents have also received the most money - $3,219,239. FEMA has handed out a total of $4.6 million in Connecticut so far.

The SBA is also handing out assistance to flood victims. Monday was the last day for businesses and nonprofit organizations to apply for low-interest loans. However, another program called Economic Injury Assisttance is still taking applications from residents. The deadline is February 28.
