Police Locate Stolen Vehicle Involved in Glastonbury Carjacking

Glastonbury Police said that a vehicle two people stole from a newspaper delivery man in their town early Saturday morning was recovered after a pursuit and resulting crash on Interstate 91 in Rocky Hill.

An 18-year-old Middletown man and a 16-year-old boy are in police custody after the crash that shut down the on-ramp of the highway at exit 24 around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.  Police said that the stolen white Hyundai Santa Fe was spotted in Middletown where officers started to pursue the vehicle.

"Middletown Police Department located the vehicle in Middletown and the vehicle didn't stop for them so they pursued up here and it ended up crashing up on the on ramp here at exit 24 on 91," said Lt. Corey Davis, of the Glastonbury Police Department.

The chase continued onto I-91 and ended with a crash in Rocky Hill.  Two male suspects in the vehicle fled the scene but were apprehended a few streets away from the highway in a neighborhood.

People in the neighborhood said they saw lots of police in the area and knew something was happening.

"The dogs in the house went nuts and we knew something was happening. We went to the front of hte house and saw police cruiser, multi, going by," said Joe Korb, of Rocky Hill.

Korb said he watched officers with K9s search the area.

"About 15 minutes later, they came back and we went out and asked them politely what happened. All they told us was 'we got them," he said.

Middletown police detained 18-year-old Antwane Daniels and a 16-year-old. They will be questioned by Glastonbury Police.

Daniels was charged with unsafe passing, first-degree larceny, running from police, reckless driving and additional charges. Bond was set at $100,000.

The juvenile was charged with attempt to commit a crime, first-degree larceny and interfering, resisting. He was released to his guardian.

“We still have some investigation to do to figure out if those are the two suspects that committed our carjacking," Lt. Corey Davis said.

The armed carjacking took place at 1 Glastonbury Place shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday.  A newspaper delivery man told officers that he was robbed at the apartment complex by two men with handguns. He said the men then stole his vehicle.

The newspaper deliveryman was not injured.
