Arrest in Connection With New Haven Double Murder

Police have made an arrest in connection with the murders of Marquis Sumler and Michael Fernandez at 24 Front St. in New Haven on Jan. 29.

New Haven Police and the U.S. Marshalls Task Force apprehended Samuel Mabry, a convicted felon, on Friday on a warrant in connection with the murders.

Two men showed up at the house, looking for Fernandez, shot him in the chest and asked where his “quad” was, referring to an all-terrain vehicle, police said. After the man shot Fernandez, someone inside the house shot back.

At some point during the violent exchange, Sumler was hit, police said.

The Front Street home is known for drug dealing, police said, and neighbors went to police to express their concerns the day before the shooting happened.

Mabry has been charged with criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, reckless endangerment in the first degree and carrying a pistol without a permit. His bond has been set at $250,000.
