Arts School Teacher Accused of Sexually Assaulting Student

A former teacher at Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts school is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a then 14-year-old student and has been charged.

Brian Marshall, 28, of Meriden, has been charged with second- and fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury/impairing the morals of a minor.

The arrest warrant said he had been the student's seventh-grade teacher and debate coach. The teen said the relationship had gotten more intense over a few years.

The first time Marshall and the teen were physical was during a snow day in February 2017, according to court documents. The victim said Marshall picked her up from her home, they drove around and she kissed Marshall in his car.

The first time the two had intercourse the victim was 14, according to paperwork. There were multiple instances of intercourse in Marshall’s vehicle including at Devil’s Hopyard in East Haddam, Blackledge Falls in Glastonbury, Gillette Castle and several different commuter lots.

In the warrant, the victim said both she and Marshall called out from school one day and had sex in the spare bedroom of his Meriden home.

The teen also said in documents that she spent multiple nights at Marshall’s house – stating that he and his wife were on a break – and told her mom she was sleeping at a friend’s home.

Detectives also have the teen’s journals, call logs and DNA samples, according to the warrant.

Other students who were aware of the alleged relationship brought it to the attention of school administrators in December, the arrest warrant application said.

“It has come to our attention that a former CREC employee has been arrested for allegations made last winter,” Superintendent Tim Sullivan said in a statement send to NBC Connecticut. “When CREC was made aware of the allegations, the individual was immediately put on leave. CREC has cooperated fully with law enforcement officials. The individual no longer works for CREC.”

NBC Connecticut went to Marshall's home and there was no answer. NBC Connecticut also reached out to his attorney via phone and email and did not receive a response.

Marshall is out on a $25,000 bond and due back in court on Sept. 18.
