Assignment – Watch Historic Inaugural

No need to keep the kids home from school next Tuesday if you want to make sure they see the inauguration of Barack Obama.

Many schools across the country are working the historic event into the lesson plan and marking the day on campus, with live broadcasts, assemblies, in-class assignments and their own inaugural balls. Some are even sending groups of students to Washington, D.C., to see the inauguration for the first time.

Gary Rose, a political science professor at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, is taking a group of students to a presidential inauguration for the seventh time. He usually charters one bus of 50 students. This year, he's chartering two and there's a waiting list.

Rose says he's never seen students so interested in attending an inauguration. He says it usually takes about two months to sign up enough students to fill a bus, but he says it only took eight days this year to fill up the first bus.
