3 Wesleyan Students Pulled From Water at Amston Lake in Hebron

Three Wesleyan University students were pulled from the water by rescue crews at Amston Lake in Hebron on Saturday afternoon.

Officials said emergency crews were called to Amston Lake on Ames Road in Hebron around 2:45 p.m. after getting a report of a possible drowning.

A spokesperson for the EnCon investigation said the three teens were rescued from the water during a canoe accident.

Officials said a 19-year-old female was in the water for an unknown period of time. She was flown to Hartford Hospital where she remains in intensive care, according to EnCon Police.

Investigators said the woman was unresponsive on her way to the hospital.

Police said another 19-year-old female and male were transported to Middlesex Clinic in Marlborough for evaluation.

"We’re still on the early ends of this investigation and we have several different conflicting reports that we’re working through," EnCon Police Captain Eric Lundin said.

No further details have been provided by police on the students' conditions.

Wesleyan University released a statement on Sunday.

"We have been in touch with the families, are providing support for the students involved, and assisting authorities investigating the incident. The health and safety of our students is paramount, and we are all hoping for the student’s recovery," the school said in part.

On Monday, officials from Wesleyan said two students remain hospitalized and one of them is in intensive care.

The area is a small community and residents say they look out for each other.

Some residents are on edge waiting for answers.

"Our hearts go out to anybody that this happens to. It's just not fair. It's not good at all. Everybody is heart sick about that. They're making sure their kids are home right now," Elaine Williams of the Amston Lake Association said.

Firefighters from Colchester, Glastonbury, Hebron, Lebanon and Marlborough responded to the scene. LifeStar was also called.

Officials are investigating the incident.
