Attempted Sexual Assault Near UConn

State police are investigating an attempted sexual assault near the University of Connecticut Storrs campus early Saturday morning.

A masked man broke into an apartment in Mansfield at about 3:29 a.m. He was able to gain access to the apartment by breaking a window and then reaching in and unlocking a door, state police said.

Once inside, he tried to sexually assault the female resident while threatening her with a knife. The woman was able to fight back, kicking the intruder, which caused him to flee the scene.

The woman was not injured but state police are searching for the suspect, described as a man about 5'7" inches tall with a thin build.

Since the attempted assault happened just a few miles away from the UConn campus, state police notified university police and officials. All students are reminded to keep their dorms and apartments locked. In addition, students are urged to contact police if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhoods or apartment buildings.
