A Connecticut attorney has pleaded guilty to stealing $1.4 million from a charity he founded to help military veterans and their families.

A Connecticut attorney has pleaded guilty to stealing $1.4 million from a charity he founded to help military veterans and their families.

Federal prosecutors say 67-year-old Kevin Creed, of Litchfield, waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty Wednesday to wire fraud.

Authorities said Creed established a charity called the Friends of Fisher House Connecticut in 2010. The charity is a chapter of the national Fisher House Foundation, an organization that builds homes on the grounds of military and Veteran Affairs medical centers where military veterans and their families can stay for no cost while undergoing treatment.

He solicited funds through various methods but kept $1.4 million and used the money for personal and law firm expenses, according to officials.

He will be sentenced on Nov. 20.
