Attorneys Push to Keep Yale Warrant Sealed

Public defenders for the man charged with murder in the death of Yale graduate student Annie Le, have filed a motion in an extension of the court order sealing the arrest warrant.

The New Haven Register is reporting that the attorneys for Raymond Clark III said in their motion, “The defendant asserts that the disclosure of the information contained in the arrest warrant affidavit would irreparably prejudice the defendant’s state and federal constitutional rights to an impartial jury and to a fair trial. This interest must override the public’s interest in viewing the warrant affidavit.”

When Clark was arrested Sept. 17, the warrant was sealed for 14 days, but it may not be unsealed until Oct. 6 when the motion is addressed in court.

The motion is just one paragraph long and simply asks that the case “remain under seal.”

State’s Attorney Michael Dearington, who is prosecuting Clark, could not be reached Thursday for a reaction to the defense motion.

Clark is being held on $3 million bond. He was an animal technician working for Yale in the research building where Le conducted experiments.
