The bell was inscribed with the saying "Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings"

A brass bell on Long Island dedicated to the memory of the Newtown, Conn. school shooting victims has been stolen, police in Nassau County New York said.

The 8-inch-tall bell, with an inscription that says “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings,” was stolen from the Masone Beach playground in Island Park between 9 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

The bell was also inscribed with the number 26, which represents the number of people killed at the shooting last year at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
