Berlin Turnpike Reopens After Fire; 911 Returns

The Berlin Turnpike was shut down in Newington between Wells Road and Prospect Street, due to a restaurant fire.  It is now reopened.

It began mid-morning Friday at the Kyoto Japanese Restaurant.  Firefighters braved frigid temperatures and extinguished the fire by noon.

At the same time, the 911 system serving the Newington police and fire departments went down.  Calls were rerouted to the Wethersfield Police Department.  The system is back to normal now.  It was believed to be the result of electrical problem.
