Teenager's Bike Stolen at Gunpoint

A 16-year-old's bike was stolen at gunpoint on Saturday night.

New Haven police are searching for a man who they believe held up a 16-year-old at gunpoint and ordered him to hand over his bicycle.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, police were dispatched to the area of Maple and Norton streets for a fight. When they arrived, they found a 16-year-old male crying.

The teenager told police that he had been riding his bicycle on Maple Street when a blue Honda Civic pulled up next to him. The car is most likely a 2006-2007 four-door, dark blue Honda Civic with tinted windows.

The passenger got out of the car and approached the victim. He then pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the teen, demanding he get off his bicycle. The victim surrendered his bike to the person, who rode off on it on Maple Street toward Winthrop Avenue.

The victim described the perpetrator 19 or 20. He is thought to be about 5-feet-7 and thin. He has short black hair, brown eyes and was clean shaven.

At the time of the incident, he had on a black and red New York Yankees fitted cap, black T-shirt and black cargo pants.

The bike that was stolen is a brown and white trick bicycle. It has four pegs: black on one side and silver on the other.
