Blood and Sweat to Help Girard Family

Rebuilding Carol Girard’s family home is a true exercise in blood and sweat.

ABC’s “Extreme Makeover:  Home Edition” is building the family a new home and one of the designers is recruiting blood donors to participate in a memorial blood drive in honor of Carol’s husband Thom and their eldest son Marc. They died in July during a swimming accident.

Rib Hillis, one of the designers for “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is recruiting blood donors.

“What better way to honor the memories of Thom and Marc Girard than by giving the gift of life at a time when we have all come together for the Girard family,” Hillis said.

Hillis, who is a blood donor, said this is another way for a community to help and for the show to leave something good behind.

“One of the great things about blood donation is community helping community. When we leave, we will have left something behind to benefit the whole community in memory of Thom and Marc Girard,” Hillis said.

The Thom and Marc Girard Memorial Blood Drive will be held at Voluntown Elementary School at 195 Main Street on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
