Blumenthal, Healy Clash Over Budget Study

AG is worried about taxpayer dollars, GOP head says leave the investigation to others

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal had more to say Monday about his investigation into a study, paid for by the Governor's office, into how best to deal with Connecticut's budget crisis.  (More reporting here and here.)

Critics say the study, conducted by Kenneth Dautrich, the director of public policy at the University of Connecticut, had political aspects to it that told the governor how to protect her image as she debated the crisis with Democratic legislative leaders.

Blumenthal says he's working with state auditors in trying to determine if the $220,000 that was paid for the study went to one individual or to the university itself.

Meanwhile, Christopher Healy, the Republican State Chairman, says Blumenthal has no business being involved in an investigation.  He said the matter should be handled by the auditors or, if need be, the State Elections Commission.

He said Rell has done nothing wrong and that Blumenthal, as he put it, would investigate a diaper rash if he thought it would get him a headline.
