Blumenthal Re-Election Proves to be a Low-Key Senate Matchup

Many voters may not know there's a race for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut this year.

Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who is facing re-election to a second term, has run a series of TV ads touting his record of "fighting for" various groups, including veterans, women and consumers.

But for the most part, it's been business-as-usual for Blumenthal, who has been conducting his typical senatorial duties.

His Republican challenger, Bethel state Rep. Dan Carter, has struggled to attract attention to his campaign, including his critiques of Blumenthal. He's been vastly outmatched in fundraising and says the "air got sucked out of the room" by the hotly contested presidential race.

Carter had hoped to debate Blumenthal at least several times, however the Democrat agreed to one match-up, a live televised debate.
