Boater Rescued After Falling Overboard in Housatonic River

Firefighters rescued a boater who fell overboard on the Housatonic River in Stratford on Monday afternoon.

According to fire officials, the man ended up in a marshy area of the water in the area of River Road and Main Street. His boat was still circling in the river when emergency crews arrived, its motor running.

Rescuers helped pull him ashore and said he was cold and wet but uninjured. The boater refused medical treatment, according to the fire department.

Firefighters towed his boat to Brewers Marina on Broad Street.

It's not clear what caused the man to fall.
