The man found dead in a pond in Bushnell Park in Hartford Tuesday, accidentally drowned, according to the Office of the State Medical Examiner.
Two people found 63-year-old Ben Melendez lying face down by the rock wall surrounding the pond around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Police responded to the scene and began CPR, but Melendez was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police initially labeled the death as suspicious, but after conducting an autopsy, the medical examiner ruled the death was accidental.
