The man suspected of beating and raping a 47-year-old woman on Saturday night in Hartford was arraigned on Tuesday and is being held on $750,000.
Kenneth Maestas, 42, of Hartford, has been assigned a public defender.
He is a convicted felon who has been arrested at least 12 times in the past, including unlawful restraint charges, according to police.
Maestas was charged with sex assault with a firearm, strangulation, unlawful restraint and threatening in connection with this case.
Bond was originally set at $500,000 but was increased.
