Bones Discovered in Wooded Area of Montville

Children playing in the woods uncovered the bones Sunday.

State Police are investigating the discovery of human remains in a wooded area in Montville.

Children playing in the woods found the partially buried bones of a woman off Oxboxo Dam Road Sunday, according to State Police. Troopers secured the scene and closed Oxboxo Dam Road to process evidence in the surrounding area, police said. They are treating the area as a crime scene.

It is believed the remains may have been there for a year or longer, according to State Police.

Investigators from the State Police Majors Crimes Squad will be at the scene until at least Wedneday, according to Lt. Paul Vance.

The remains will be taken to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Farmington to be examined.
