Failing Brakes Led to Truck Crash on I-91: Passenger

Failing brakes led to a crash that injured a truck driver and snarled traffic on Interstate 91 North in Rocky Hill on Thursday, according to statements his passenger gave state police.

State police responded to the crash at 6:10 a.m. and the driver, Jose Ruiz, 30, of Hyattsville, Maryland, had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries, so police weren’t able to speak with him, according to a news release from police.

However, the passenger said the driver tried to slow the truck down, but the brakes did not work, so the driver tried to use the guardrail to slow down, but the truck became entangled in wire rope.

Then it ended up in the median, where it hit some trees and landed in the gully of a stream.

Police are investigating the crash.
