Police Identify Victim Killed in Bristol Stabbings

A 21-year-old man has been charged in a stabbing that killed one person and injured four others during a party in Bristol on Saturday night.

Police were called to a home at 126 High St. around 11 p.m. Saturday. Inside, they found four victims suffering from stab wounds, police said.

One victim, a 21-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police released his name on Monday and identified him as Matthew Walton, 21, of Bristol.

The victims, three men and a woman, were taken to Bristol Hospital, where a second victim was in critical but stable condition, a third victim was in stable condition and a fourth victim was treated and released.

Officers arrested Marc Higgins, 21, of Bristol in connection with the stabbings.

Sandra Ranger, one of the victims, said Higgins became upset at the party over some comments a girl made to him, left and came back with two knives.

"It was probably half-an-hour, 45 minutes after he left. He just came back, snuck up behind us and just jabbed at us," she said.

Ranger said Walton was a good friend to her.

"He definitely did nothing to the kid. (He) didn't fight with the kid, invited the kid over his house was good to him," she said. "(He was) one of the sweetest guys I've ever known."

Higgins was charged with murder, first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon.

His friends are in disbelief over the allegations.

"Mark would never do something like that in his life. Something had to come over him," Janelle Keith, of Bristol, said.

Higgins is being held on $2 million bond.

Investigators have not said what led to the stabbing at the party.

The State Police Major Crimes Squad was helping Bristol police investigate the incident.
