Burglary Spree Hits High-End Neighborhood

New Haven Police are investigating a string of burglaries.

They are looking for a tall man seen wearing an olive colored maintenance type jacket. Police suspect the man is behind a string of 6 burglaries since last Thursday in the East Rock section of town, said Officer Joseph Avery.

"It's a little disconcerting, we moved up here because it was supposed to be one of the safest in town," said Sarah Sabella.  The Yale University student and her husband have lived in East Rock for less than a year.

The burglar has targeted apartment buildings with shared hallways during the day.

"He's probably from the neighborhood," Avery said.  "Most burglars work their own neighborhood. That's the pattern throughout the country."

Homes on Trumbull, Orange and Bishop streets as well as Whitney Avenue have been hit.

Police urge people in New Haven to keep their doors and windows locked.

Anyone with information in the robbery ring is asked to call New Haven Police at (203) 946-6316.
