‘By the Grace of God, We Got Out of There With Our Lives'

A family hit by tragedy is rebuilding with the help of a small Connecticut community.

Kenny and Lori Sullivan lost everything last month when their home suddenly exploded and burned to the ground. The couple was inside the home when it blew up and don’t remember much. The family was switching from oil to propane, neighbors said.

The couple is still healing from the burns.

“I was buried by rubble. I couldn’t see. All I heard was my neighbor saying follow my voice, follow my voice,” Kenny Sullivan said.

The two made a surprise visit at a fundraiser held in their honor.  Friends and supporters organized a spaghetti dinner at Gio’s Brick Pizzeria in East Granby to help the couple get back on their feet.

“There’s been so many people we don’t even know helping us. We’re so honored," Lori Sullivan said.

"It goes beyond words,” Kenny Sullivan said.

Organizers raised more than $1,200 for the family. The money will help them rebuild, they said.

“The gratitude and overwhelming support; we don’t even know what to say,” Lori Sullivan said.  The next fundraiser for the family is scheduled for January.
