CL&P Issues Warning for Torrington Residents

People going door-to-door asking to see CL&P bills are not CL&P employees.

CL&P is warning residents in Torrington about people going door-to-door, impersonating Connecticut Light & Power employees.

Reports the company received said the people showing up at houses are asking to see people's utility bills.

CL&P does not make unsolicited house visits unless they need access to equipment or there is a safety concern, CL&P said in a news release.

All CL&P employees carry company-issued identification and electrical contractors working with CL&P carry documentation explaining the nature and location of their work.

If someone visits your home claiming to represent CL&P:

Decline the offer, even if they claim some form of proof, such as a badge number from the utility company.

Call CL&P directly, using the number on your CL&P bill or from the phone book to confirm the visit.

Never provide personal financial information to any unsolicited caller or visitor, even if the person seems legitimate.

Report the incident to local police.
