Cab Driver Bought Booze for Teens: Police

A Fairfield cab driver is accused of buying beer for a group of teens Tuesday.

Joseph Sistrunk, 55, of Bridgeport, picked up four teens outside the Greenfield Mercato on Bronson Road around 7 p.m., according to the Connecticut Post .

Two off-duty Fairfield police officers tell the paper they saw Sistrunk go into the That's The Spirit store on Fairfield Beach Road, and then leave with 12-packs of beer that he turned over to the 15-year-olds in the cab.

According to the police report, the group gave the driver $30 for the $9 trip.

With alcohol in hand, the group got out of the cab and Sistrunk left the scene, however, he didn't get very far. The cabbie was stopped by police a short time later at Sasco Hill and Post roads.

Sistrunk was charged with illegal delivery of liquor to a minor and risk of injury to a minor, the Post reported. He was released on a promise to appear July 19 in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Three of the 15-year-olds, one from Fairfield, one from Westport and one third from New Canaan, were each charged with possession of alcohol by a minor. A fourth was not charged because he did not have any beer in his possession at the time of his friends' arrest, according to the paper.
