Cafeteria Items Found in School Restroom

Inspectors found drinks, napkins and plates in the restroom.

Health officials visiting a local school earlier this year got quite a surprise when they found cafeteria items inside a restroom.

In April, inspectors found cases of drinks, napkins and plates in the North Branford High School restroom, the New Haven Register reports.

The discovery was brought up during a town council meeting last week.

Council member Al Rose said he was “very disturbed” to read of the situation in an East Shore Health District memo to the school system.

Michael Pascucilla, director of health for East Shore Health, told the Register that the has been corrected and Supt. Scott Schoonmaker said school employees work quickly to fix such matters.

“Mostly bulk food items, stuff in cases, not open, working type of food items you’d find in a pantry. Those have since been removed,” Pascucilla told the Register. “It appears to just be an oversight on someone’s part.”

School leaders said the restroom does have a toilet and sink, but is more of a staff locker room and is not used by students.
