Car Hits House in New Britain

A  teen driving a child crashed into a house on Elam Street in New Britain on Monday night.

Neither the 18-year-old driver nor the 10-year-old passenger was seriously injured. On Tuesday, plywood covered the hole the car left in the house at 58 Elam Street.

Neighbor Jintana Rawlings, of New Britain, said she's long been worried a crash would happen at the sharp corner on Elam Street.

"It was scary," she said. I've never seen anything like it before in my life. It's nothing I'd ever want to see again."

Children often play in the front yards on Elam Street, but  none were outside at the time of the crash and the residents of the damaged home were away, Rawlings said.

"The elderly couple that lives in that home, they weren't here at the time," she said. "Usually she's out gardening, doing housework. No one was home at the time, no kids were playing outside, no cars were driving by, which was very unusual."

New Britain police continue to investigate the crash.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
