Car Theft Suspect Arrested After Police Chase

Bridgeport police have arrested the man who they said stole a car and led police on a chase.

John Fisher, 25, of Derby, was driving a stolen Honda Civic in the area of East Main Street and Noble Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, when an officer recognized the car and tried to pull him over, police said.

Police were looking for the car in connection with a number of burglaries in the Greater Bridgeport area.

According to police, Fisher hit the gas and drove into the area of East Lake Road in Trumbull. The first officer lost his trail, but a second officer spotted the car tangled in a fence near Palmer Avenue and West Lake Road.

Fisher fled on foot, police said. He was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Bridgeport and Trumbull police charged Fisher with second-degree larceny, engaging in police pursuit, reckless driving and operating under a suspended license.

He was also served with outstanding warrants, police said.
