Caretaker Arrested in Connection With Desecration of Bridgeport Cemetery

A former caretaker of a Bridgeport cemetery has been arrested in connection with an investigation into the disturbance of graves at the Park City Cemetery, according to police.

Bridgeport police said Dale LaPrade, the cemetery operator, was arrested on a warrant that charges her with felony interference with a cemetery. She was released on a promise to appear in court Dec. 18.

LaPrade and her husband oversaw the cemetery for decades, according to the Associated Press, and complaints from relatives of those buried at Park Cemetery led police to search the property in September.

Officials said gravestones and human remains were moved to make way for the newly dead, while human bones, casket pieces and broken gravestones were found in the woods.

Relatives estimate that more than 100 graves were either disinterred or had new remains buried above them and are now trying to restore an oversight board and determine whether everyone is buried where they should be, the Associated Press reports.

Police said LaPrade is no longer involved in daily operations at the cemetery.

The Associated Press reached out to LaPrade on Thursday and she responded by text saying she had no comment.
