One Dead in Crash on I-95 in Old Lyme

One person is dead and several were injured in a crash that closed the left and center lanes of the Baldwin Bridge on I-95 South in Old Lyme on Monday.

The crash involved three cars and a box truck and happened just before 11:30 a.m.

According to state police, an Acura Integra driven by Evelyn Rivera, 34, of New Haven, broke down on the southbound side of the bridge.  The car was then struck by a Ryder rental truck, police said.

Rivera's passenger, Nidia Vargas, 58, of New Haven, was killed in the crash. 

The truck also hit two other vehicles.  No one in those cars was injured, police said.

The driver of the truck, Dean Cambio, 23, of Warwick, Rhode Island, was treated and released from a hospital.

Rivera was also treated at a hospital for injuries and released.

The crash tied up southbound traffic on I-95 in Old Lyme and Old Saybrook for hours.
