Casino Slot Machine Revenue Down in January

A boost in slot machine bets at Connecticut's two Indian casinos in December was short-lived as Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino posted declines in January.

But the Mohegan Sun reported Monday an increase in revenue, or the share of wagers.

Foxwoods, owned by the Mashantucket Pequots, reported $34.1 million in revenue, down 8 percent, from January 2014. Total slot machine bets fell 2 percent, to $424.8 million.

The Mohegan Sun posted a 2 percent revenue increase, to $44 million, from January 2014. Slot machine bets slid 1 percent, to $537.3 million.

The eastern Connecticut casinos are trying to regain their footing as competition mounts in New York and Rhode Island. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun reported increases in slot machine bets in December, a rare increase in a long decline.
