Chaperone Gets 10 Years Probation in Groping 5th Grade Girls Case

A Stamford  man said nothing as he was sentenced to 10 years of probation for bizarre behavior during a fifth grade field trip to New York in June.

Tomas Manzano, 35, of Stamford was accused of groping six 10- and 11-year-old girls while chaperoning several children on a field trip to the Central Park Zoo New York City.

Prosecutors said he swigged from a bottle of what smelled like alcohol before inappropriately touching fully clothed 10- and 11-year-old girls.

Police said that when they approached Manzano, he appeared to be intoxicated, resisted arrest, tried to bite an officer and was taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation.

He admitted that he touched one girl's inner thigh and pleaded guilty last month to attempted sexual abuse.

On Monday, he received 10 years' probation, plus six months in jail he has already served.

His lawyer said Manzano is relieved the case is concluded.
